Finding out about the Contrabassoon can be difficult. Being a relatively uncommon instrument few books and tutors are commercially produced, and even then are seldom kept in stock. Reeds are expensive and elusive to find. Knowing how to safely transport the Contra (as well as the bassoon and a stand or two), where to get repairs done and finding suitable music to play can also be problematic.
Nothing beats finding a good Contra teacher who can save you a lot of time, trouble and expense by pointing you in the right direction with reeds, instruments, repertoire and general advice.
