The lockdown(s) in 2020 produced a wide range of home-made videos and the BBC SSO were no exception. My own personal contributions were the Arioso by Weissenborn (using the recording on Leviathan) and a rapid reed-making thank you to the NHS (with the Schulhoff Perpetuum mobile in the background).
The Orchestra were very game (sorry!) in playing Tennis Elbow, the BBC Wimbledon theme music and went to town with the wonderful arrangement of Scottish Reels by Gordon Cree which is our staple encore when we are on tour (complete with on-stage dancing of course!).
Steve Magee’s fine arrangement of Eric Coates ‘Calling All Workers’ combined all the BBC Orchestra bassoonists and called for some super-high bassoon playing from Jarek Augustyniak.
